Your new Council

17 November 2014

Three ‘new faces’ will serve Wattle Range as a result of the 2014 Council elections.

Three ‘new faces’ will serve Wattle Range as a result of the 2014 Council elections.

Postal voting closed at 5 pm Friday November 7, with a Council wide voter turnout of 41.73%.

Despite an extensive promotional campaign headed by the State Electoral Commission the Wattle Range elector participation rate was down on that of the 2010 elections which was recorded at 55.51%.

Elected unopposed, Mayor Peter Gandolfi will continue for another term. He will be joined by returning Councillors Rob Dycer and Dale Price, similarly, unopposed in their nominations for representation of the Sorby Adams Ward.

As a result of the ballot, Kevin McGrath will join former Corcoran Ward Councillor Peter Dunnicliff in representing the Kintore Ward, whilst Rob Thornett and Dean Burrow were successful in their bid for re-election in the Riddoch Ward.

The successful candidates in the highly contested Corcoran Ward were returning members, John Drew, Sharon Cox and Gwenda Lawlor, along with the fresh faces of Dennis Muhovics and Glenn Brown.

Whilst acknowledging the contributions made by the retiring and unelected Councillors, Council’s CEO, Mr Peter Harriott was keen to get ‘stuck into business’ with the new look Council. “They will be welcomed and officially sworn in at a ‘meet and greet’ function to be held at the ‘Civic Centre’, Millicent this week” he said. “This will then be followed by their first official Council meeting on Tuesday November 25.”
