Council’s Pool and Swimming Lake facilities are set to remain open for use by the public into the month of April this year.
Despite previously being closed in March each year, the decision has been made to keep the facilities open until after the Easter break. The Nangwarry pool will operate up to and including Monday 6th April and the Penola Pool and Millicent Swimming Lake will close for the season at 6pm on Sunday 26th April.
“The pools and lake have been very well attended this season, which is pleasing to see” said Council Chief Executive Officer, Mr Peter Harriott.
Extensive works at the Penola Pool in the end of 2014 saw it open almost a month later than scheduled. “Although not ideal, the patience shown by public in this situation was certainly appreciated.” Mr Harriott said. These works included the upgrade of plumbing to improve circulation of water to the pool and complete resurfacing of the pool, replacing peeling paint with a fibreglass product that has a much longer life expectancy. “The decision to extend the closing date will enable residents and visitors to continue using these much improved facilities” he added.
The Penola and Nangwarry Pools are open from 3 pm until 6 pm on week days, and from 1 pm to 6 pm on weekends. When the temperature is 30 degrees or more at 6pm, the pools re-open from 6.30 – 8.30 pm. When the weather is forecast below a maximum temperature of 20 degrees the pools do not open.
The Millicent Swimming Lake is open to the public at all times during the swimming season.
