Wattle Range Council is calling for individuals interested in nominating for the upcoming Council Elections to attend one of two candidate information sessions to be held in Millicent and Penola next week.
The aim of the sessions is to provide prospective candidates with important information on the election process and the roles and responsibilities of an elected member.
“We would like to give potential elected members as much information as we possibly can in the lead up to nominations closing,” Chief Executive Officer, Ben Gower said.
“Anyone who feels that representing their community at a Local Government level might be for them is encouraged to come along," he said. "It is important that they know what is involved, in what ways they can make a difference and how the election process actually works."
The presentation on the night will feature information on topics including the role and functions of a council, the relationship between the three tiers of government, the role of an elected member and their allowances and expenses, legal responsibilities, how elections are conducted, eligibility and the process of nomination and campaigning for election.
The candidate information sessions will be held at 6.30 pm in the Millicent Council Chambers on Tuesday, 28 August and in the Penola Visitor Information Centre on Wednesday, 29 August.
Those intending to attend are asked to register with Council on 8733 0900 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
Nominations open on Tuesday, September 4 and close Tuesday, 18 September 2018 at 12 noon.
