Council invites comment on Animal Management Plan

1 May 2019

Community comment is sought on Wattle Range Council's draft Animal Management Plan. The plan sets out the strategic direction of dog and cat management within the district over a period of 5 years. Presented to elected members at the April Council meeting, the draft will be open to feedback from the public until the middle of this month.

The plan identifies objectives, strategies and actions for domestic animal management and aims to create an environment that encourages responsible pet ownership, where people and pets integrate safely and harmoniously within the Council area. Some of the key objectives of the plan are:

  • Responsible dog exercise in public places;
  • To increase dog and cat registrations, microchipping and desexing rates;
  • To encourage responsible dog and cat ownership;
  • Reduce public and environmental nuisance caused by dogs and cats; and
  • Effective administration of Dog and Cat legislation.

For copies of the draft Animal Management Plan and information on how you can have your say, visit any of Council’s offices or www.wattlerange.sa.gov.au/haveyoursay.

Written submissions will be received until 5 pm on Friday, 17 May 2019.
