Public comment sought on essential upgrades to Rymill Hall

1 July 2019

Community comment is currently sought on the proposed project to provide disabled toilet facilities, incorporating a baby change area and disability access into and throughout Rymill Hall, Penola.

Rymill Hall is a significant community facility within the McCorquindale Park Complex in Penola that is in reasonably sound condition but is in need of some enhancements. One of the major issues to be addressed is to bring the building into conformity with legislation concerning disability access and appropriate disabled facilities.

“Council are in the process of developing a comprehensive Disability Access and Inclusion Plan and it is imperative that we ensure that Council’s facilities are able to be accessed by all. These upgrades are essential in bringing this widely used venue up to standard in this respect,” Council’s Chief Executive Officer, Ben Gower said.

Some of the key objectives of the plan are:

  • Conversion of a current office to a disabled toilet, baby change room and small store
  • Some upgrades to the existing toilets (new partitions, floor coverings)
  • Replacement of front doors
  • Full disabled access from front of building to main hall
  • Replacement of doors from front foyer to main hall
  • Disabled access from main hall to supper room
  • Disabled access from supper room to the outside (second required exit)
  • New doors to the west end of building (forming a formal exit)
  • Fire services upgrades (hose reels, emergency lighting and extinguishers)

Plans are available for inspection at the Penola Visitor Information Centre and Millicent Council Office or online at www.wattlerange.sa.gov.au/haveyoursay

Written submissions should be received by 5pm, Wednesday 17 July 2019 and can be emailed, posted or left at any of Council’s offices.
