Australia Day Awards
Australia Day is on January 26th, Each year barbecue breakfasts are hosted by the local Lions Club at the following locations from 8 am.
Beachport - Lagoon Reserve, Somerville Street.
Kalangadoo - Kalangadoo Institute, Eliza Street.
Millicent - Jubilee Park, North Terrace.
Penola - Penola War Memorial Park, Church Street.
Formal Australia Day presentations are made at 9 am. BYO chairs.
Council invites applications Australia Day Citizen, Young Citizen and Community Event of the Year Awards annually.
The Citizen awards are for persons over 30 years and the Young Citizen awards are for persons aged up to 30 years as at January 26, in the year of award.
The Community Event of the Year Award is for the most outstanding or beneficial event during the year.
Council encourages the communities of all Council townships and areas to nominate people who have given outstanding service to their communities. Awards can be issued in each of the categories listed above from within the four Council Wards. (Corcoran, Riddoch, Kintore and Sorby Adams). Persons who have nominated in previous years may be re-nominated.
Nomination forms are available from the Council Offices and should include full supporting information on the nominee to assist the selection process. Nominations close on the last Friday in November.
